With Gratitude, Love, and Hope for the Future
Dear Runners,
After 15 years of organizing the Star Valley Half Marathon, we want to let you know that we, the
Kunz Family, will be stepping back and entrusting this special event to Star Valley Health. This
change is bittersweet—but we believe it’s the right moment, and the right people, to carry this
legacy forward.
As many of you know, this race was born from heartbreak. We created it in memory of our son,
husband, father, and brother, Jeremy Kunz, who was tragically killed by a drunk driver. In the
years since, what started as a way to honor his life has become something far greater than we
ever imagined—a force for good, a celebration of resilience, and a powerful reminder that love
can rise even in the darkest places.
Thanks to you—every runner, volunteer, sponsor, and supporter—we’ve been able to transform
our grief into something meaningful. The race has raised thousands of dollars for local charities
and helped countless individuals and families facing difficult times. That
is your impact. You made that possible.
You didn’t just run a race—you ran with purpose. You carried Jer’s memory forward with every
step, and you helped build a community rooted in compassion, strength, and hope. There are no
words big enough to thank you for that.
While we’re stepping away from the logistics of race day, we’re not letting go of the spirit that
brought this all to life. We’ll still be there—cheering from the sidelines, remembering Jer, and
watching this incredible event continue to inspire and uplift.
Star Valley Health shares our values and our commitment to keeping the heart of this race
beating strong. We trust them completely and know they’ll continue to honor the mission, the
memory, and the meaning behind it all.
From the bottom of our hearts—thank you. For running. For remembering. For standing with us
all these years.
With endless gratitude and love,
Bart and Denice Kunz
